Born and raised in London until age seven, little Zubair is abruptly uprooted and shipped off to his family’s ancestral Pakistani village for reasons known only to his parents.
​Plunged into a world of massive culture shocks and bewildering lifestyle adjustments, it’s the little daily routines that suddenly become matters of life and death. Namely: going to the bathroom.
​As we follow young Zubair through the indignities of learning to navigate the infamous naala and his grand, heroic quest to get a modern toilet built inside the family compound, we are treated to something truly special, the chaotic, confusing, and delightfully tender inner world of a child just trying to figure out life in a strange new land.
